H
I S T O R Y
Strofilia
was founded in 1981 by two mechanical engineers, Achilleas Lampsidis and
Yiannis Maltezos, in Anavissos, Attica, as a hobby rather than a professional
venture.
The
old Maltezos' family vineyard was replanted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Asyrtiko
and Ugni Blanc and the century-old wine-making building was restored to
accommodate the first harvest (1983) and bottling (1985).
In
1988, a state-of-the-art winery is built on the estate. The initial founders
are joined by Vasilis Vlachos (a chemical engineer) in 1990, and in 1994
the legal status of a limited liability company is adopted.
In
1997, a new unit is built in the same area for the production of white
wine. In 1999, Strofilia S.A. is certified to the ISO 9001 standard for
wine-making and bottling, in the belief that, regardless of its size, the
company has to adhere to specific quality norms. At the same time, the
co-operation with selected vineyards, aimed at variety refinement and organic
vine-growing, is bearing fruit.
Today,
Strofilia boasts a work force of 12 specialists, private vineyards, constant
co-operating vine-growers, and a production capacity amounting to 40,000
12-bottle cases of quality wines. |
